Cairo To Khartoum is the first of the Bernard Baker stories. Here we meet Bernard and his batman Sam Johnston for the first time as they embark on an army career that, as the series progresses, will take them to the far-flung corners of the Empire. In this volume it's 1898, Bernard and Sam are off up the Nile with Kitchener to The Sudan to beat the Dervish Horde in Khartoum but a plot to kidnap an American journalist, Max Perchinsky, is being hatched by the evil Jeremy Blasford-Smythe. Bernard decides that he and Sam must break orders to foil the kidnap attempt. However they did not expect to get into quite so much deep water. The Bernard Baker stories are a mix of humour, history, action and adventure. The evil deeds are matched with acts of heroism, there's swash and there's buckle, laughter and tears all brought to life by reassuring voice of David Baldwin. You, your children, your parents and grand parents will all be captivated.
